Mild steel cage nut for accommodating threaded fasteners in thin sheet metal
- Cage nuts consist of a square nut held captive in a spring steel cage
- Two wings are compressed allowing the cage to be inserted into the square holes in equipment racks
- The nut is held in position behind the hole when the lugs are released
- Often used on materials too thin or soft to be threaded
- The slightly loose fit of the nut in the cage allows easier alignment and minor adjustment
